Stephen R. Shipley
(May 19, 1945 - March 6, 2010)
 ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Stephen R. Shipley, 64, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at his home in Orlando.

 

He was born May 19, 1945 at Dodge City, the son of Sam H. and Eunice M. Lix Shipley. He was raised in Dodge City where he attended St. Mary of the Plains High School graduating in 1963 and the St. Mary of the Plains College graduating in 1968. He received his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Ft. Hays State University and worked as a counselor for over 40 years. In 1977 he moved to Miami, Florida and later moved to Orlando where he operated the Center for Christian Counseling.

He served in the Army National Guard during the 1960’s.

In 1974 he married Mary Jo Stark at Dodge City. They later divorced. On May 19, 1996 he married Karen Maxwell at Orlando. She survives.

Other survivors include: his son, Elijah Shipley, Whitethorn,California; his daughter, Sarah Shipley, Portland, Oregon; 3 brothers, Bob Shipley and wife Jamie, Belton, Missouri, Rick Shipley and wife Donnis, Hutchinson, Kansas and Sam J. Shipley, Dodge City; his sister, Cindy Shipley, Dodge City; and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Nate Shipley and a sister-in-law, Marylin Shipley.

Vigil Service will be 7:00 pm Friday, March 12, 2010 at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 903 Central Ave., Dodge City, with Fr. Ted A. Skalsky presiding. Viewing will be prior to the vigil service Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City.
